State launches call for proposals to extend state school teachers' work hours
Process will allow 2,000 educators to double their weekly teaching hours from 20 to 40

The Government of Paraná published on Monday (31) the notice regulating the Change of Work Regime of teachers of the state education network, a measure known as Standard Bending. The process will allow 2,000 teachers to extend their weekly hours from 20 to 40 hours, a significant advance in the enhancement of the category and the strengthening of public education.
According to Governor Carlos Massa Ratinho Junior, the initiative recognizes the work of education professionals and reinforces Paraná’s commitment to teaching quality. “We are valuing the teachers who made the State become a national reference, with the best performance in Ideb among all the states of Brazil,” he said.
First change since 2009
This is the first trip-bending notice published by the State in 15 years, in response to an old demand from teachers. According to the Secretary of Education, Roni Miranda, the measure benefits teachers financially and also strengthens their bond with students and with the school.
“With an extended workload, the teacher can follow the same class for more years, knowing better the difficulties and potentialities of the students, which directly impacts the quality of learning,” explained Miranda.
Selection criteria and calendar
Applications for the Standard Bending will be open from April 7 to 16 and can be made through the official website of the Secretariat of State for Education. The final result will be released by the end of May, and the selected teachers will begin to act with the new workload in the second half of 2025.
The notice includes vacancies for the disciplines of Art, Biology, Sciences, Special Education, Physical Education, Philosophy, Physics, Geography, History, English, Portuguese Language, Mathematics, Pedagogy, Chemistry and Sociology.
The classification of the candidates will be made at the state level and will follow the following criteria:
Hourly load supply – 30% of the score;
Age of the candidate – 40% of the score;
Teacher level and class – 30% of the score.
In the event of a tie, the longest service time in the position, the highest level and class and, finally, the highest age of the candidate will be analyzed. The period assessed for scoring covers from 1 January 2020 to 31 December 2024.
Investments in public education
The publication of the notice is part of a package of actions aimed at enhancing education in Paraná. In 2024, the State has already summoned more than 1,100 teachers and pedagogues approved in the last public tender, totaling 4,500 hirings since 2023.
In addition, in March, the government passed on R$ 150 million to 1,500 state schools through the Most Beautiful School program, destined for structural repairs. Another prominent initiative is Ganhando o Mundo, Brazil’s largest exchange program between state education networks, which, in 2025, will send 1,200 students to study abroad with all expenses paid.
With measures such as the Standard Bend and investments in school infrastructure, the Paraná seeks to consolidate its position as a national reference in public education.
