Storm causes damage, knocks down trees and leaves Jaguariaíva on alert for water shortage
Storm in Jaguariaíva knocked down trees, damaged properties and left areas without power. Mayor Juca Sloboda warns of possible water shortage.

A strong windstorm hit Jaguariaíva during the early hours of Tuesday (13) and caused havoc in different regions of the municipality. Tree falls, flashy buildings, power outages and problems on urban roads and rural roads are among the recorded occurrences.
From the early hours of the morning, the mayor of Jaguariaíva, Juca Sloboda, accompanies teams that travel through the neighborhoods to lift the damage and provide care to the affected families. Among the regions mentioned are Taquaral, Nossa Senhora of Fátima and Vila Edite, in addition to the vicinity of the asylum and other points of the city.
"Unfortunately there was a windstorm this morning and quite a lot of damage," said the mayor during a recording made in Taquaral.
Vendaval reaches different neighborhoods
Alongside the mayor, Reginaldo reported that the damage is spread over several points of Jaguariaíva.
“We are here in Taquaral, but we have already passed the Nossa Senhora of Fatima, in Vila Edite, we have here near the asylum as well. There are several points in the city,” he said.
In addition to tree falls, cases of shattered residences have been recorded. Municipal teams and volunteers work to care for the affected families and to recover the affected places.
There were also tree falls in the rural area of the municipality.
Mayor warns of risk of water shortage
Another problem caused by the storm is the interruption in the supply of electricity. According to Juca Sloboda, the lack of light has also affected the structure responsible for water collection in the Capivari River.
The mayor asked residents to reduce consumption to avoid an eventual shortage of supplies.
“Our pickup is out of power right now. So, ask our population to save water, because we do not know if it will take the return of energy to capture or if it will return soon,” he said.
According to Juca, while some parts of the city already have electricity, others remain without supply. The amount of trees felled should also increase the work required for the recovery of the power grid.
“Probably there will be a shortage of water in the city in a short time, because it has been without light since dawn, the consumption is large and we are not able to capture,” he warned.
Rain damages holes and rural roads
In addition to the damage caused by the wind, frequent rainfall has affected the maintenance services performed in the municipality.
Reginaldo said hole-holes had to be stopped and that conditions on rural roads were also compromised.
“It has caused a huge disturbance for us this whole rainfall. We've started the lid-hole service and you have to stop. We also have the rural roads compromised. You can’t put machines in,” he explained.
Teams and volunteers work in attendance
During this Tuesday, municipal teams continue to travel Jaguariaíva to identify new occurrences and provide help to residents.
The mayor also highlighted the participation of volunteers in the work, especially in Taquaral.
“There have been cases of blasts as well. We are helping, chasing, helping those in need and helping our city. We are working,” said Juca Sloboda.
The guidance is for residents to save water and have increased attention in places with fallen trees, poles or damaged wires until services are normalized.
