The Minister of Education, Camilo Santana, announced on Tuesday (16) that 3rd year students of ensino médio will receive financial incentive to participate in the National Examination of Ensino Médio (Enem).
Data from the folder show that about half of the students who were completing the ensino médio in 2023 did not participate in the last edition of Enem.

The information about the aid was released during a press conference to publicize the results of Enem 2023. The folder also released the individual results of the participants.
According to the minister, President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva sanctioned on Tuesday the law that institutes the Foot-in-the-Middle program. The initiative provides a kind of savings scholarship for low-income students to complete the ensino médio. “I can point out here that there will also be an incentive for the young man who makes the Enem.”
“It will be a way to stimulate the regular youngster of ensino médio who will receive this financial aid in the 3 years of ensino médio, but in the last year, in the 3rd year, he will receive a percentage, a value to do the test of Enem,” he explained.
“We need to convince and show that, first, there is no cost to the young man. Then that is the opportunity he has to access higher education. There is no reason for the young man not to do the Enem,” he said.
Another aggravating factor, according to Santana, is that, among those who registered, many did not get to do the test. Of the 1.4 million ensino médio finalists who applied for the exam, only 1 million participated effectively.
“We need to identify the reasons in each network, in each state. And dialogue with the networks to identify the reasons for this," he said.
