Theatrical Lighting in Ponta Grossa Begins Transforming Churches and Monuments. Find Out Which Locations Are Already Lit and Learn About the Project
The iluminação cênica on Ponta Grossa has begun to transform the city’s nightscape, with new systems installed in churches and historical monuments. The initiative of the City Council includes 12 churches from different regions of the municipality, in addition to the Monument to the Tropeiros. The first spots are already illuminated, while other installations are still in progress.
The Chapel of Saint Edwige, the Parish Santa Rita of Cassia and the Church São João Paulo II are among the places that have already received the new lighting. The Monumento aos Tropeiros also has the system, while the installation in the Parish Nossa Senhora of Health is in the final phase.
The project seeks to enhance the architectural characteristics of the buildings, highlighting facades, towers and ornamental details that are part of the history and identity of Ponta Grossa.
In addition to modifying the appearance of the spaces during the night, the initiative aims to contribute to the valorization of cultural heritage and expand the interest for turismo religioso in the municipality.
Iluminação cênica celebrates the 100th anniversary of the Diocese
The deployment of iluminação cênica in Ponta Grossa also integrates the actions related to the centenary of the Diocese, celebrated in 2026.
The project was presented by prefeita Elizabeth Schmidt during the celebrations of the 100th anniversary of the Diocese, in May of this year. Now the proposal is starting to be put into practice, with the first systems in operation.
According to the mayor, the initiative seeks to preserve the memory of the city and highlight buildings that are part of the history of different generations.
"Ponta Grossa has a history that is also recorded in its constructions, its monuments and the architecture that accompanies generations of leading edges. The iluminação cênica allows us to value this heritage and present these spaces in a new way, especially at night,” Elizabeth said.
The mayor also stresses that the project can create new possibilities for tourism and for visitors interested in learning about the architecture and historical spaces of Ponta Grossa.
Design highlights architecture of Ponta Grossa churches
In the churches contemplated, the lighting systems were developed to enhance the characteristics of each building.
Facades, towers, ornamental details and other architectural elements are highlighted at night, creating a new visual perception of the buildings.
The technology used also allows different lighting compositions and color changes on specific occasions, enabling spaces to receive thematic lighting during celebrations, festivities and special dates.
The proposal is to enhance the visual identity of each church and reinforce the relationship between the buildings, the religious history and the urban landscape of Ponta Grossa.
In addition to the architectural aspect, the project aims to stimulate the turismo religioso and cultural, creating new points of interest for residents and visitors during the night period.

The iluminação cênica will be deployed in 12 churches in different regions of Ponta Grossa.

Among the sites on the list, the Chapel of Saint Edwige, the Parish Santa Rita of Cassia and the Church São João Paulo II are already illuminated.
The installation in the Parish Nossa Senhora of Health is in the final phase.
The Monumento aos Tropeiros has also received the new iluminação cênica and is part of the initiative to enhance the architectural and cultural landmarks of the municipality.
Ponta Grossa has already modernized 41.5 thousand street lighting points
The implementation of the iluminação cênica in Ponta Grossa occurs in parallel to the process of modernization of the public lighting of the municipality.
In August 2026, the city achieved 90% coverage with LED lighting, with approximately 41.5 thousand points already modernized.
Since the conception of the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) for public lighting, the municipal project envisaged the installation of iluminação cênica systems in architectural and cultural references of the city.
The initiative includes churches and monuments, among them the Monumento aos Tropeiros, expanding the use of public lighting as an instrument for the enhancement of urban spaces.
With the first systems in operation, the proposal begins to modify the night landscape of Ponta Grossa, highlighting constructions that are part of the history and cultural identity of the municipality.
