UEM suspends classes in Maringá on Tuesday (3) after storm. University Hospital will also have changes in services.

The State University of Maringá (UEM) announced the suspension of classes on Tuesday (3 November), in all periods, at the headquarters campus, in Maringá, in the Northwest of the Paraná. The decision was taken after the decree of public calamity in the municipality, due to the strong storms that caused havoc and disturbances in the city.
The measure was officially communicated by the Office of the Dean on Monday (2) and seeks to ensure the safety of the academic community in the face of the consequences of the climate events that have affected Maringá and the region.
Despite the suspension of the teaching activities, the university reported that the administrative services, congresses and previously scheduled events are maintained, provided that there are adequate conditions for their realization.
The Prefecture of the University Camp (PCU) will support the activities that remain in operation, while working to re-establish the necessary conditions for the full resumption of the academic routine.
University Restaurant Will Continue to Work
According to the statement, the University Restaurant (RU) will maintain the attendance for lunch on Tuesday (3).
The institution clarified that the suspension applies specifically to the teaching activities of the campus headquarters, not representing the complete shutdown of university services.
The decision is based on Article 33, paragraph XXIV, of the Statute of EMU, which allows the Rectorship to adopt exceptional administrative measures, ad referendum of the Superior Councils, in emergency situations.
Hospital Universitário will have suspended calls
In addition to the changes in the academic calendar, the EMU reported that the Medical Outpatient Specialty Hospital of Hospital Universitário Regional of Maringá (HUM) will not be able to function on Tuesday (3).
Patients who have scheduled appointments should contact the service to request the rescheduling.
People who need emergency or emergency care should seek Pronto Atendimento Units (UPAs) of the municipality, according to the university's guidance.
The institution stressed that the other facilities of the Hospital Universitário continue to function normally.
University works to normalize activities
The Prefecture of Camps is mobilized to restore the working conditions of the university facilities as soon as possible.
In a note, the Dean’s Office also expressed solidarity with the families and communities affected by the storms in Maringá and neighboring municipalities.
The institution also reported that it constituted a prevention commission focused on the possible effects of the El Niño phenomenon on the university.
Further information on the return of classes, possible changes in services and other emergency measures will be released through the official EMU channels.
