CAIXA speaks about electronic fraud of R$ 1.7 million in Imbaú Municipality
CAIXA comments on suspicion of electronic fraud of R$ 1.7 million in Imbaú Municipality and confirms challenge to bank transactions.

Caixa Econômica Federal released an official position on the suspicion of electronic fraud of approximately R$ 1.7 million involving bank accounts of the City of Imbaú, municipality located in the region of Campos Gerais, in Paraná. In response to the Portal Boca no Trombone (BnT Online), the institution confirmed that it was triggered by the municipal administration and that the unrecognized financial movements are being analyzed.
The demonstration comes after the BnT Online report reveals information from a bulletin of occurrence registered with the 18th Police Subdivision of Telêmaco Borba. The document points out that public funds were transferred irregularly between October 15 and 16, 2026.
The case is being investigated by the Civil Police as an electronic fraud.
Box confirms dispute of transfers
In a note sent to the report, the financial institution clarified that the municipality received assistance after identifying banking operations that it did not recognize.
“The CAIXA informs that it has provided assistance to the city hall and has taken the necessary measures. The bank clarifies that, after verified movement not recognized by the client, a request for contestation was made at the agency.”
According to the bank, the contestation goes through a technical analysis conducted by specialized professionals. The data relating to the survey are considered confidential and shared exclusively with the competent bodies.
The CAIXA also explained that the result of the analysis is communicated directly to the account holder.
Despite the positioning, the institution did not clarify if there was recovery of part of the resources or if there is possibility of restitution of the values questioned by the City Hall.

According to the Occurrence Bulletin no 2026/1394260, registered on October 19, the problems began on the 14th of that month, when the mayor Dayane Sovinski was unable to access the Caixa Manager system.
At the time, the system pointed to difficulties related to access credentials. The municipal administration has forwarded a formal request to the bank to regularize the situation.
On the same day, the municipal secretary of Finance, Keila de Fátima Bueno Lopes da Silva, received a call from a person who identified himself as a representative of the financial institution.
The interlocutor would have informed about the need for an urgent update in the banking system used by the City Hall.
According to the report presented to the Civil Police, the secretary performed procedures on the computer of the department following the guidelines received. Subsequently, the equipment began to show failures, locks and interruptions in operation.
The suspicious financial movements were identified on October 16, following an alert made by a legitimate representative of CAIXA.
Double authorization system raises questions
Among the aspects investigated is the authorization mechanism of the banking operations carried out by the municipality.
According to police documentation, transfers of public resources depend on two access keys: one linked to the Secretariat of Finance and another to the mayor.
The secretary reported that the key to the chief executive had been locked since October 14. Even so, transfers would have been completed within the next two days.
This circumstance integrates the points that should be clarified during the investigation, especially in relation to the way the operations were executed.
The note sent by CAIXA does not provide specific clarifications on the functioning of this mechanism in the transactions investigated.
Bank maintains ongoing monitoring
In addition to addressing the dispute, CAIXA highlighted that it has security systems designed to identify movements considered suspicious.
“The bank continuously monitors its products, services and banking transactions to identify and investigate suspected fraud cases.”
The institution added that it uses technologies, data protection policies and specialized teams to strengthen the security of its service channels.
It also reported that it carries out educational actions to guide customers on preventing electronic fraud.
In the case of public bodies, the CAIXA provides a specific booklet with safety recommendations for municipalities and other public administration institutions.
Civilian police clear financial movements
The investigation is under the responsibility of the delegate Thiago Barbosa de Almeida, of the 18th Police Subdivision of Telêmaco Borba.
The procedure should seek clarification on the origin of the transactions, the possible misuse of bank credentials and the destination of the amounts moved.
To date, conclusive results on the authorship of electronic fraud or on the recovery of resources have not been presented to the report.
The Boca no Trombone Portal will continue to monitor the progress of the investigations and the official positions related to the case.
