Copel invests R$ 36 million in Ponta Grossa to modernize and expand power grid in 2026

Copel is allocating R$ 36.3 million in investments for Ponta Grossa over 2026. The amount is being applied in expansion of the power distribution structure, expansion of the capacity of substations and deployment of new power supply circuits to ensure more stability in the supply of electricity.

Of the total, R$ 10.8 million are dedicated to the expansion of the distribution network. Another R$ 7.2 million finances high-voltage works, which includes the installation of a new power supply circuit responsible for distributing the energy that starts from the substations. The company also directs R$ 5 million for new calls and customer service, R$ 4.9 million for permanent maintenance and R$ 8.4 million in infrastructure, new systems, fleet and equipment to support the company’s field base and teams in the city.

For Copel’s Executive Manager of Center-South Field Operations, Leandro Henrique Moraes Guilherme, the modernization and robustness of the energy infrastructure are consolidated as decisive factors for the economic expansion and the attraction of new ventures in Ponta Grossa.

"As the municipality expands its vocation as a productive pole, the guarantee of a stable and continuous supply of electricity emerges as a central element in the decision-making of investors. This year alone, R$ 36.3 million are being earmarked for interventions to extend, modernize and maintain the network permanently, ensuring reliable support to the business advancement of Ponta Grossa ", he says.

The ongoing investments include the expansion of the networks served by the Uvaranas Substations and Ponta Grossa Norte. The resources are also intended to modernize Substation Ponta Grossa South and strengthen the distribution infrastructure served by Substation Sabará.

The investment plan also provides for the installation of 54 automatic reconnectors in the city. These equipments function as “smart keys” and increase the protection of the power grid against touch from external agents, allowing faster re-establishment of power supply in the event of interruptions.

The local technological transformation also involves the installation of 175,000 smart meters in the municipality. The system allows consumption to be read remotely and in real time, as well as giving the customer autonomy to monitor their spending via the app. The technology also speeds up the diagnosis and resolution of occurrences and collaborates with the reduction of the emission of polluting gases by reducing the circulation of service vehicles on the streets.

The investment plan in Ponta Grossa continues the large deliveries carried out recently in the city. In December 2024, the concessionaire put into operation the Lea Martins Substation, in the Maria Otilia Complex, in the Oficinas region.

A year later, in December 2025, the Itaiacoca Substation went into operation, the result of an 8 million R$ contribution. Together, the two structures significantly increased the flexibility of maneuvers and the attendance capacity of the regional electrical system.

Industrial District

Since October last year, Copel has been carrying out specific actions aimed at the Ponta Grossa Industrial District. The company has strategically installed qualimeters at various points in the region to assess the quality of power supply to customers.

The field teams also carried out thermographic inspections on the distribution lines of the region. The technology functions as a “heat ray” of the electrical grid, using special cameras that detect hot spots invisible to the naked eye on wires, transformers and poles. The analysis allows to identify worn or overloaded parts, allowing the repair before a failure occurs and without the need to turn off consumers.

As a high-reliability alternative, Copel presented to the large local industries the migration proposal to 138 kV or higher. The connection at this level is made directly by transmission towers, which eliminates the vulnerability to external factors and isolates the factories from any oscillations caused by medium voltage consumers.

In the context of the celebrations of the 203 years of Ponta Grossa, Executive Manager Leandro Guilherme highlights that the trajectory of Copel remains deeply connected to the history of the city. "Having a powerful, modern and future-proof electrical network reinforces the logistics and industrial differential of the municipality, consolidating an environment conducive to new companies to settle or expand their businesses in the region," he concludes.
