End of 6x1 schedule may have first vote in Senate next week
Alcolumbre states he will table proposal that provides for 40-hour weekly workweek and two paid rest days

The end of the 6x1 scale could be voted on in the first round by the Senate next week. The president of the House, Davi Alcolumbre (Union-AP), said on Tuesday that the proposal will follow the regimental steps and that the parliamentarians will have freedom to decide according to their convictions.
In a press conference, Alcolumbre declared that each senator will have “free will” to vote. The signage puts into question a change in the routine of workers who currently work six days for one rest.
Despite the forecast for the first vote, the president of the Senate did not confirm that the final analysis will be completed before the second round of the presidential elections, scheduled for October 25.
What changes for workers
PEC 221/2019 provides for the reduction of maximum hours of work from 44 to 40 hours per week, without salary reduction, and ensures two days of paid rest. The goal is to replace the six-day work and one-day break scale with a model with more rest time.
The change will be gradual if the proposal is approved and promulgated. The maximum load will initially go up to 42 hours per week, two months after enactment. The reduction to 40 hours will occur in the next step, according to the transition period provided in the text.
The proposal was already approved by the Chamber of Deputies and received approval from the Senate Constitution and Justice Committee in September, under the report of Omar Aziz (PSD-AM).
Approval depends on two votes
Before the first round vote, the rite provides for five sessions of discussion. If the text is adopted, three more debate sessions will be necessary before the second vote. Alcolumbre stated that he intends to comply with these steps without speeding up the processing. To move forward, the PEC needs the support of at least 49 of the 81 senators in each shift, the equivalent of three-fifths of the House.

The announcement that the proposal will be scheduled does not yet change the working hours of workers. The entry into force depends on the completion of the processing and promulgation of the amendment, respecting the transitional deadlines.
