The data of the IBGE Demographic Census 2022, released in 2025, show that Ponta Grossa followed the trend observed in the Paraná and in Brazil of growth of the evangelical population. According to the survey, about 86,800 residents declared themselves evangelical, representing an expressive growth in relation to the previous census.

This advancement is related to several factors. In recent years, Ponta Grossa and the Campos Gerais region have undergone significant economic expansion, accompanied by population growth, the creation of new neighborhoods and the arrival of people in search of opportunities. In this scenario, the evangelical churches have expanded their presence in the communities, bringing together people of different social classes and strengthening bonds through the practical experience of faith.

Another important factor was the strategic use of social networks. During the COVID-19 pandemic, between 2020 and 2023, with the suspension of face-to-face services, churches began transmitting their activities through digital platforms, expanding the reach of messages and allowing a greater number of people to follow services and other religious activities.

Evangelical churches also develop relevant social actions. In several neighborhoods they promote charitable bazaars, food collection, distribution of basic baskets and free courses, strengthening the community relationship, social inclusion and the feeling of belonging. Some institutions still maintain schools, recovery clinics for chemical addicts and projects aimed at the care of people in a situation of vulnerability.

Although there is no official record, it is estimated that Ponta Grossa has more than 500 evangelical churches and congregations, including historical denominations such as Baptist, Presbyterian of Brazil, Assembly of God, Quadrangular Gospel and Brazil for Christ. From the 1980s and 1990s, several autonomous Christian communities emerged, characterized by a more flexible liturgy and greater participation of members in the manifestation of their gifts and talents. In Ponta Grossa, this movement was marked by the founding of the Christian Community of Ponta Grossa in 1991, followed by the emergence of other autonomous communities scattered throughout the city’s neighborhoods.

More than numerical growth, the contribution of evangelical churches to the transformation of lives, families and communities stands out. Its purpose remains the same: to proclaim salvation through Jesus Christ, according to John 3:16, "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that everyone who believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life."
