Planalto Select Hotel in Ponta Grossa celebrates 85 years uniting history, hospitality, gastronomy, innovation and tradition at the heart of the city.
There are companies that follow the growth of a city; others help to tell its story. The Planalto Select Hotel combines the two trajectories. Opened on January 11, 1941 as Palace Hotel, it was born at a time when Ponta Grossa was consolidating itself as an important railway junction and needed to expand its hospitality structure. Designed from the Rotary Club, it was the first large hotel of the Campos Gerais and an architectural reference: its building was the first in the city with paved slabs and, in the 1940s, the tallest of the Ponta Grossa. In 1943, he received President Getúlio Vargas, who spoke from one of his balconies.
The story gained a new chapter in the 1970s, when the venture passed to the Wagner family. A wide-ranging renovation has modernized facilities, electrical and hydraulic networks and transformed old rooms into apartments with private bathrooms. Since 1997, a new physical and administrative restructuring has paved the way for continuous investments in technology, events, gastronomy and service qualification, keeping the historical heritage in activity and connected to the new demands of tourism and business.
This ability to reinvent oneself is also at Lumen Café + Gastronomy, which opened in 2019 and is integrated into the hotel. With cafés especiais, its own micro roasting and gastronomy also open to the local public, the space expanded the relationship of the Plateau with the city and transformed the accommodation into an experience that unites tourism, business and coexistence.
At the age of 85, Planalto continues to invest - including the recent renovation of part of its apartments - and moving a chain that involves employees, suppliers, gastronomy, events and services. Thus, it preserves memory, contributes to the generation of work and income and shows, at the heart of Ponta Grossa, how tradition and innovation can occupy the same address.
