The president of the Estados Unidos, Donald Trump, said on Wednesday (28) that he does not intend to get involved in the controversy involving the letter released by the senator Flávio Bolsonaro (PL), defeated in the presidential elections of Brazil. The episode involving Trump and Flávio Bolsonaro gained repercussions after the MP initially declared himself the true elected president of the country, despite the victory of Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT).

Asked by journalists about the document released by the senator, Trump avoided commenting directly on the allegations and confirmed that the U.S. government authorized the entry of Flavio and his family into the Estados Unidos.

“I will not comment on this, but I know we gave him permission to enter the country. But I'm not gonna get involved. It was a very strange election, that’s for sure,” he said.

Despite avoiding a position favorable to the declaration of Flavio, Trump again questioned the Brazilian electoral process, without presenting evidence of irregularities.

The Republican also claimed to consider that the Bolsonaro family was treated unfairly in Brazil and denied having participated directly in the presidential dispute.

Flávio Bolsonaro Declared President-elect in Letter

Trump's demonstration came after Flávio Bolsonaro released a letter on Wednesday after arriving at the Estados Unidos with his wife and two daughters.

In the first version of the document, the senator claimed to be the "true elected president" of Brazil, even after the defeat for Lula in the second round of the presidential elections, held on Sunday (25).

About half an hour later, the text was changed. The expression was replaced by "leader of Brazil".

In the letter, Flavio also questioned the election result and presented allegations of fraud without providing evidence to support the charges.

The MP also criticized the decision to extend the voting time until 7 p.m. in certain places. The measure had been authorized by the minister Cristiano Zanin, of Supremo Tribunal Federal (STF), after requests from the PL and PT campaigns.

In the document, Flávio thanked the presidents Donald Trump, of the Estados Unidos, and Javier Milei, of Argentina, for the support received during their departure from Brazil.

Brazil's exit is investigated by the Federal Police

Flávio Bolsonaro’s journey to Estados Unidos is also being analyzed by the Federal Police.

The senator left the Brazilian territory after the adoption of precautionary measures determined by the Supremo Tribunal Federal, including the ban on leaving the country and restrictions related to his passports.

According to an official note released by the Federal Police on Wednesday (28), the corporation had requested the measures to STF after identifying the risk of leaving Brazil by the parliamentary, investigated under PET No. 16877/DF.

After the court decision, ordinary Brazilian and diplomatic passports were cancelled. The PF also reported that it did not find an official record of the senator’s departure from Brazilian immigration control posts.

Flávio was summoned on Monday (26) to deliver any passports of other nationalities within 24 hours, a determination that, according to the institution, was not met.

The Federal Police stressed, however, that the restrictions related to travel documents do not characterize, in isolation, the condition of fugitive.

Trump avoids involvement amid international repercussions

The US president’s statement adds a new chapter to the international repercussions of the Brazilian elections.

Although he authorized Flávio Bolsonaro to enter the Estados Unidos and voiced criticism of the electoral process, Trump did not publicly endorse the claim that the senator would be the real winner of the contest.

Lula was re-elected president of Brazil in the second round, with approximately 51.7% of the valid votes.

The episode highlights the relations between Brazil and Estados Unidos, while Brazilian authorities investigate the circumstances of Flávio Bolsonaro’s departure from the national territory.
