The president of Estados Unidos, Donald Trump, said that Flávio Bolsonaro can stay in the US for as long as he wants, even after the defeat of the senator in the Brazilian presidential election of 2026. The statement was made on Saturday during a Halloween party at the Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida, and comes amid the repercussions of the departure of the Brazilian parliamentarian after a court ruling.

Despite signaling support for the senator’s stay on U.S. soil, Trump said he does not intend to meet with Flávio Bolsonaro at this time. The Republican also questioned the Brazilian electoral process, won by President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.

During a conversation with reporters, Trump declared: “He can stay here as long as he wants.”

The American president also said he considered that Flavio received unfair treatment and rated the Brazilian election negatively. Despite Trump’s criticism, international observers have deemed the electoral process free and fair.

Flávio Bolsonaro left Brazil after STF decision

The trip of Flávio Bolsonaro to Estados Unidos took place last week, after the minister Alexandre de Moraes, of Supremo Tribunal Federal (STF), determined the seizure of his passports.

The senator left Brazilian territory on Tuesday (27), using a route that passed through Argentina. According to the information released, Flavio crossed the border by land, boarded a private aircraft in Puerto Iguazú and made a stop in Ecuador before heading to Miami.

The departure took place despite the judicial restriction. Flavio is investigated in two federal proceedings related to suspected money laundering. The Federal Police also considered the possibility that the MP would leave Brazil to avoid judicial measures.

The investigation does not yet represent a definitive conviction of the senator.

U.S. government granted humanitarian authorization

After arriving at the Estados Unidos, Flávio Bolsonaro received entry authorization through the mechanism known as humanitarian parole, a temporary permission granted by the U.S. immigration authorities for humanitarian reasons.

This type of authorisation is usually limited in validity, often up to one year. Therefore, the declaration of Donald Trump does not mean, by itself, that the senator has received permanent residence or immigration authorization for an indefinite period.

Marco Rubio denies US involvement in Flavio's departure

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio also spoke about the incident. According to him, the government of Estados Unidos allowed the entry of Flávio Bolsonaro, but did not participate directly in the organization of its exit from Brazil.

The statement was presented during diplomatic engagements held in Atlanta at the Estados Unidos.

International reports, however, have pointed out that Jason Miller, linked to Casa Branca, would have helped in the preparations of the trip. The information contrasts with the official position presented by Rubio.

The Secretary of State also held talks with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Brazil, Mauro Vieira. The two discussed the continuation of diplomatic dialogue and the holding of new meetings in the coming weeks.

Trump Statement Extends Political Tension Between Brazil and Estados Unidos

The positioning of Donald Trump comes at a sensitive moment in diplomatic relations between Brasilia and Washington, especially after the Brazilian presidential elections.

Although he allowed Flávio Bolsonaro to enter the Estados Unidos, the US president did not announce formal support for the senator’s new political projects and said he had no immediate plans to find him.

The situation keeps in evidence issues involving the decisions of the STF, the compliance with Brazilian judicial determinations and the international relations between the two countries.

The case should remain at the center of the political debate in the face of judicial developments involving Flávio Bolsonaro and possible demonstrations by Brazilian and American authorities.
