Brazilian agricultural production exceeds R$927 billion in 2025

After suffering from unfavorable weather conditions in 2024, Brazil’s agriculture reached 345.4 million tons of cereals, legumes and oilseeds in 2025. The volume exceeds by 18.2% the recorded in the previous year, when production was impaired by the effects of the El Niño phenomenon.

The value of production, which combines the physical volume produced with the prices practiced in the sale, was R$ 927.2 billion, a jump of 18.4% compared to 2024.

The values are in currency of the year of each survey, that is, they are not corrected by inflation. The 2025 amount is the largest at least since the Plano Real was created in 1994.

The data are part of the Municipal Agricultural Production (PAM), released on Thursday (17) by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE).

Area advancement

The survey also showed that, for the first time, Brazil broke the mark of 100 million hectares of harvested area. The 100.6 million in 2025 represent an increase of 4.4% compared to the previous year.

The area is equivalent to 1 million square kilometers (km2), larger than the entire state of Mato Grosso (903.2 thousand km2) or almost all of Bolivia (1.10 million km2).

Soybeans

According to the survey, soy represented more than a third (34%) of the value of Brazilian agricultural production (R$ 315.2 billion), a performance that keeps Brazil as the largest producer and exporter in the world.

The soybean crop grew 14.4% in a year, reaching 165.2 million tons, that is, 20.8 million more than 2024.

The IBGE explains that the international scenario has contributed to the maintenance of the price of soybeans.

“The conjuncture shows that the tariff war between Estados Unidos and China has caused the Asian country to increase demand for Brazil’s soybean, keeping domestic commodity prices stable throughout the last months of the year.”

The IBGE points out that technological advances in production helped cotton production to grow 16.4% in a year and reach 6 million tons, allowing Brazil to become the world’s largest exporter of the product.

“The result of investments in technology, sustainability and production efficiency, especially in the Brazilian Cerrado, with the highlight being the Mato Grosso,” he says.

“This achievement not only strengthens the economy, generating billions in foreign exchange and thousands of direct and indirect jobs, but also positions the country as a global reference in modern and competitive agricultural practices, expanding its influence in the textile and commodity markets [commodities traded in international prices], complete.

The survey shows that the value of coffee production rose 44.7%, reaching almost R$ 100 billion. Production reached 3.4 million tons, up 3%, limited by climatic and natural factors such as depletion of plants. However, the increase in the value of production was explained by the “overvaluation of the price of sack in the international market”.

In 2025, Mato Grosso remained Brazil’s leading barn in production value, which advanced 37.1% in a year. All that was harvested in the state represents 17.9% of the total of the country.

Midwest Overtakes Southeast

The analysis of the production values reveals that in 2025, the Midwest again surpassed the Southeast, reversing the order of 2024.

Last year, the Midwest saw the value grow 31.8%, reaching R$ 288 billion, driven by soybeans, corn and cotton.

The Southeast presented R$ 271 billion, with emphasis on coffee and sugar cane.

Until 2017, the Southeast has always been ahead. From 2018 to 2023, the Midwest took the lead, losing it again in 2024, before taking it back in 2025.
