The City of Castro on Thursday handed over the deed of a land of more than 2,000 square meters destined for the indigenous community. The space will be used for the installation of a support structure and commercialization of handicrafts, offering better working conditions and welcome to families who pass through the municipality.

The land is located in Rua Arthur Nitzke da Silva, in Vila Santa Cruz, near PR-151. The location was chosen to facilitate the access of indigenous people and expand the opportunities for selling artisanal products.

The delivery meets a commitment announced by Mayor Reinaldo Cardoso during the inauguration of the new Municipal Council for the Promotion of Racial Equality (COMPIR), held on October 8.

Land will have water, electricity and toilet

According to the City Hall, the space will have a basic structure, including an electrical power point, water supply and a bathroom. The proposal is that the land also functions as a support point for indigenous families who travel through different municipalities of the Paraná to market handicrafts.

The delivery ceremony took place in front of the gate of the land and brought together the mayor Reinaldo Cardoso, the municipal secretary of Social Assistance, Günter Lesnau, and representatives of the indigenous community.

During the event, the mayor stressed that the initiative represents the fulfillment of commitments made by the municipal administration.

"We have fulfilled our campaign commitment to racial equality, to the social part, and to giving the indigenous community a place so they can have where to stay and set up their commercial structure," said Reinaldo Cardoso.

The mayor also stressed the importance of the location of the space to stimulate the commercialization of products.

"It's a suitable location and close to the highway, which is very good for marketing products. Congratulations and welcome to the new space,” he added.

Indigenous community commemorates historic achievement

For the indigenous families who have been visiting Castro for years to sell handicrafts, the destination of the land represents an important achievement, especially by the possibility of having a place of their own to develop their commercial activities.

The representative of the indigenous community, Thierry Ivan Benitez, stressed that the initiative represents more dignity and recognition for the indigenous people.

"It's a victory for the indigenous brothers, who needed it very much. Now this is very good here and it will be very good for themselves, it means dignity," he said.

According to Thierry, indigenous families have been visiting the municipality for several years to market their products, but until then they had not received a similar support structure.

The municipal Secretary of Social Assistance, Günter Lesnau, also celebrated the delivery.

"We are fulfilling the campaign commitment and it is with great satisfaction that today we allocate this land to the indigenous community," he said.

With the destination of the area, the expectation is to offer better conditions for the commercialization of indigenous handicrafts, in addition to providing a support space for families during their stay in Castro.

The City did not inform a date for the completion of the basic structure planned for the land.
