Cathedral and other seven churches enter the list of heritage sites in Ponta Grossa
Compac resumes on this Tuesday (13) suspended processes from August; public session is scheduled for 6:30 pm at Cine-Teatro Ópera

The processes of overturning in Ponta Grossa involving the Cathedral of Sant’Ana, seven other churches and one property in the Center will be resumed on Tuesday (13). The public session of the Municipal Council of Cultural Heritage (Compac) is scheduled for 6:30 p.m., at Cine-Teatro Ópera, in Rua XV de Novembro.
The resumption of the procedures and the thawing of the deadlines were confirmed in a statement published in the edition no 4.720 of the Official Gazette of the Municipality. The act is signed by Alberto Schramm Portugal, municipal secretary of Culture and president of Compac, and refers to article 1 of Resolution No. 01/2026, published on October 2.
The measure reaches the proceedings whose public session had been suspended on August 29, 2026. This Tuesday’s publication deals with the continuity of administrative processing and does not present a definitive decision on the disposal of assets.
What properties are under review
The list of assets foreseen for evaluation brings together nine properties:
Cathedral of Sant’Ana;
Lord Church Bom Jesus, in Fazenda Santa Cruz;
Church of St. Sebastian;
Church Nossa Senhora of the Rosary;
Church Sacred Heart of Jesus;
Church São José;
Church Transfiguration of Our Lord Jesus Christ;
St. George's Parish;
Property in Barão Street of Cerro Azul, no 588.
Why the lawsuits were suspended
The suspension occurred in the face of doubts about the application of Lei Municipal No 16.036, of August 28, 2026. According to the information released on the resolution, an opinion of the Municipal Prosecutor General concluded that the legislation does not apply to cases with preliminary dismissal granted before its effective date.
The procedures return to the stage in which they were interrupted, without resumption of processing or reopening of deadlines already closed. The session is open to the public, and the call for individual communication to the owners.
Diocese expresses opposition to the proposed conditions
The discussion also motivated a demonstration of the Diocese of Ponta Grossa. In a note dated October 10 and signed by Bishop Dom Bruno Elizeu Versari, the institution declared a position contrary to the procedures for the overthrow of six temples: Cathedral of Sant’Ana, St. Sebastian, Nossa Senhora of the Rosary, Sacred Heart of Jesus, São José and Lord Bom Jesus.
The Diocese recognizes the historical, artistic, architectural, religious and cultural importance of real estate. However, it maintains that preservation must respect religious freedom, the autonomy of the Church and the purpose of places of worship.

The positioning is contrary to the overthrow in the proposed conditions, without rejecting the preservation of the heritage. The institution also invited the faithful to participate in the meeting in a peaceful and responsible way.
Session will continue the analysis
The resumption again puts into question the protection of real estate and the manifestations related to the processes. Until the session is held and the deliberations are made public, it is not possible to state which assets will have the definitive approval.
The statement published on Tuesday does not detail new individual deadlines for each property. This information will depend on the respective procedures and communications of the Board.
