The International Window Film Festival of Recife begins its 17th edition on Wednesday (28th) and continues until Sunday (1st), with the screening of 31 films, between long and short films, in addition to a series. The sessions take place at Cinema São Luiz, located in the Boa Vista neighborhood, in the city center. The program brings together Pernambuco, Brazilian and international productions, with tickets at popular prices.

Programming brings together 31 films and a series

Over five days, the public will be able to check out a diverse selection that includes works from ten countries, such as France, Mexico, the United Kingdom, Colombia, Palestine, Belgium, Italy and China. In addition to the films, the festival displays a series, expanding the range of audiovisual formats. The curatorship is signed by filmmaker Kleber Mendonça Filho and programmer and researcher Pedro Azevedo Moreira.

Among the titles selected are the American feature "Everything Can Be Seen" and the Brazilian "The Riverside" and "Yellow Cake". The full schedule is available at the end of this article. The variety of origins reinforces the international character of the event, which is consolidated as a showcase for contemporary cinema.

Pernambucan productions gaining prominence

In this edition, the representativeness of Pernambuco films is more expressive: there are 15 productions participating, including the documentary "Vivo 76", about the singer and composer Alceu Valença. The growth reflects the strength of the local audiovisual and the festival’s commitment to enhancing regional production. The presence of works of the state dialogues with the cultural identity of Recife and Pernambuco.

In addition to contemporary films, the program features restorations of classics, providing a meeting between different generations of cinema. The combination of new talents and historical works enriches the viewer’s experience. The transition between the past and the present of cinema is one of the axes of curatorship.

Special session with New York Film Festival

One of the novelties of this edition is the special session in collaboration with the New York Film Festival, which brings together works by Brazilian and foreign filmmakers. Among the short films selected are "Una Película Robada", by Camilo Restrepo; "Torino Shadow", by Jia Zhangke; and "South of Tehran", by Kleber Mendonça Filho. The partnership expands the cultural exchange and brings to Recife outstanding works on the international stage.

The initiative reinforces Janela’s vocation to dialogue with world-renowned festivals. For the public, it is the opportunity to watch productions that would hardly reach the local commercial circuit. The special session is one of the highlights of the programming.

Tickets and cultural spaces in São Luiz

Tickets cost R$ 10 (whole) and R$ 5 (half-entry), with early sale via the internet or at the cinema ticket office an hour before each session. Unlike previous editions, the sessions take place exclusively in São Luiz, a street cinema recognized as one of the most emblematic exhibition rooms in Recife. Therefore, the curatorship assembled a more compact programming.

During the five days of the festival, the Pernambuco Audiovisual Reference Center (Cena) and the Geraldo Pinho Immersive Room, located on the first and second floors of the cinema, are also available. In these spaces, visitors can check out the history of São Luiz with period objects and video installations. The visitation is a separate attraction for lovers of cinema and cultural heritage.

The International Window Film Festival of Recife is a unique opportunity to experience cinema in a historical space, with accessible and diverse programming. For more information on schedules and synopses, go to the full schedule below.
