The opening of companies on Ponta Grossa surpassed the closings in every month between April and September 2026. In the period, 7,122 new businesses and 3,643 closings were registered, resulting in a positive balance of 3,479 companies. The numbers equate to almost two openings for each closing.

The survey made available to the BnT gathers data obtained from the National Classification of Economic Activities (CNAE). The results show the predominance of individual microentrepreneurs (MEIs) and the highest movement in September, a month that concentrated both the highest number of openings and closures.

September leads openings and positive balance

In September, Ponta Grossa recorded 1,491 openings and 726 closings, with a positive balance of 765 companies — the best result of the six months analyzed.

In comparison to August, openings increased 50.9%, while closings increased 44.9%. As new business entry progressed further, the monthly balance rose from 487 to 765, a 57.1% increase.

August had recorded the lowest number of openings of the period, with 988, and also the lowest volume of closings, with 501.

June had the lowest balance, with 449 companies. None of the months, however, had more closures than openings. The monthly average was 1,187 openings, approximately 607 closings and close to 580 companies.

MEIs account for seven out of ten openings

Individual micro-entrepreneurs had a central role in the outcome. There were 5,229 openings of MEIs, equivalent to 73.4% of the new businesses registered in the survey.

In the same category, there were 2,637 closures, resulting in a positive balance of 2,592 records. Thus, the MEIs accounted for 74.5% of the total balance of Ponta Grossa.

Among the companies classified in the spreadsheet as “normal”, there were 1,893 openings and 1,006 closings, with a balance of 887. The material does not detail the sizes or legal natures that make up this group.

The participation of MEIs was also high in the closings: 72.4% of the closings belonged to the category. This shows that these enterprises concentrate most of the business movement presented in the data, both in the input and in the output of records.

Positive Balance Requires Reading Beyond Numbers

The result reveals that the creation of business records exceeded the losses in the period analyzed. However, the balance of companies does not automatically correspond to the generation of jobs, to the growth of turnover or to the increase of income.

The tables also do not allow you to calculate a business survival rate. Companies closed between April and September may have been opened in previous years. Therefore, it would not be correct to interpret the 3,643 closures as a portion of the 7,122 companies opened in the same months.

Another limit is the absence of comparison with the same period of 2025. Although September showed a recovery compared to August, the available data do not allow to say that there was annual growth or record result.

Survey does not identify the sectors that have grown the most

Despite the reference to the CNAE, the tables submitted show the results by month and by registration category, without discriminating the economic activities.

Thus, it is not possible to point out whether trade, services, industry or construction had the highest balances. This analysis depends on the detailing of the openings and closings by activity.

In the available cut, the main highlight is the combination of positive balance in all months with strong participation of MEIs. September ended the series with the highest movement and the best monthly balance.
