Ponta Grossa City Hall to Present New Deadline for Completion of Central Terminal Works

Prefeitura de Ponta Grossa confirmed on Wednesday (23) that it is preparing a new schedule for the completion of the Terminal Central modernization works. The demonstration takes place after the State Court of Accounts of Paraná (TCE-PR) grants a period of 15 days for the Municipality to inform whether it will be able to finalize the accessibility adaptations in 90 days or present a new technically substantiated planning.

In response to the Portal BnT Online, the City Council informed that the work is still ongoing and that the new schedule will be presented within the deadline set by the Court of Auditors, including the forecast for the completion of the entire work. The Municipality also highlighted that the reform is being implemented simultaneously with the functioning of public transport, a situation that needs to be considered in the definition of the new dates.

City Hall confirms new schedule for the Terminal Central

In a note sent to BnT Online, the City explained that it is working on updating the planning of the reform and that it should present a new forecast for the completion of the services. "The works and other services of modernization of the Terminal Central are still in progress and a new schedule is being adjusted for presentation, as requested, within the indicated period of 15 days - including the term of the complete work," the municipal administration said.

The response was sent after the BnT Online requested clarification on the possibility of finalizing the accessibility adaptations within 90 days indicated by the TCE-PR. The City Council has not confirmed whether it will be able to complete the work in this period. The definition should be set out in the new timetable to be presented to the Court.

Works include new floor, lighting and accessibility improvements

In addition to updating the completion deadline, the City Council has detailed the services that are running on the Terminal Central. According to the municipal administration, the works include the preparation of the new floor, the replacement of the electrical part, the implementation of a new lighting project and interventions to improve accessibility at the entrances and exits of the terminal.

The improvements are part of the process of modernizing the structure used daily by the passengers of the Ponta Grossa public transport. The Municipality explained that the implementation of the reform needs to consider the circulation of buses and users, since the terminal continues to operate during the interventions.

"The works take place simultaneously with the operation of the collective transport system and the adjustment of the schedule will be finalized taking this detail into account, in order to minimize the disturbances caused to the users of the transport and with the greatest possible speed in the execution of the work", stressed the City Hall.

The municipal administration did not inform, in the response sent to BnT Online, the percentage of implementation of the reform nor a definitive date for the delivery of Terminal Central.

Understand the collection of the Court of Auditors

The demonstration of the City Hall comes after a determination of the State Court of Accounts of Paraná, published in the Electronic Journal no 3762, this Wednesday (23). Order No. 1366/26, referring to case No. 597201/22, establishes that the Municipality has 15 days to inform whether it considers it feasible to complete the works of accessibility adequacy of Terminal Central in 90 days or to present a new technically substantiated schedule.

The decision is part of the follow-up to previous determinations of the Court relating to the accessibility of Ponta Grossa in public transport. Judgment No. 627/23 had determined adaptations in the Central terminals, Workshops, New Russia and Uvaranas, as well as improvements in bus stops located at the intersection of Comendador Miró and Benjamin Constant streets, in the Avenue Visconde de Taunay and in the Avenida Vicente Machado.

According to the dispatch, the TCE-PR’s Audit Coordination found that the obligation regarding accessibility adequacies is still in the process of being complied with, since the works of the Terminal Central remain in progress. The Court also noted that the City had requested an extension of the deadline for the completion of the reform, but did not present a specific date for the completion of the work.

In view of this, the councillor José Durval Mattos do Amaral welcomed the manifestation of the technical unit and granted a period of 15 days for the Municipality to present clarifications on the feasibility of completion of the works in 90 days or to forward a new schedule. It is important to note that the Court has not determined that the reform is mandatory to be completed in 90 days. The decision requires the City Hall to inform if this deadline is feasible and, if not, present an alternative planning duly substantiated.

When will the Terminal Central be delivered?

With the demonstration sent to BnT Online, the City Council confirmed that it is adjusting the schedule and that it should present a new forecast for the complete completion of the reform within the deadline established by the Court of Auditors. For now, there is no new delivery date officially informed in the response of the Municipality.

The municipal administration states that it intends to execute the services as quickly as possible, reconciling the modernization work with the maintenance of the operation of public transport and seeking to minimize the disturbances to passengers. The definition of the new schedule should clarify when the interventions provided for in Terminal Central can be completed.
