Elizabeth, the winner of the elections in the Campos Gerais
Victory of Sérgio Moro reorganizes forces in Ponta Grossa and places Elizabeth Schmidt in a strategic position for the next years.

Ponta Grossa has, at this time, a central character in the new political configuration of the Campos Gerais: the prefeita Elizabeth Schmidt. His trajectory so far has not been made only of flowers. On the contrary. Elizabeth broke with the Oliveira brothers who took her to the City Hall, left the PSD and after Marcelo Rangel announced her candidacy for municipal succession, she began to publicly denounce what she classified as a political betrayal.
At that time, the mayor even tried to join the PL, but ended up in the União Brasil. In 2026, it finally landed in the PL itself, took over municipal command of the legend and finally approached Sérgio Moro.
Now, looking at the board after the ballot boxes, the equation took on another dimension. Elizabeth bet on Moro. It was not a protocol. Participated in the campaign, commanded the structure of the PL in Ponta Grossa and was directly involved in the mobilization by the candidate. On election day, he publicly celebrated Moro’s victory, which he still won in the first round.
The result changes the position of the mayor. Moro ceases to be a candidate and becomes an elected governor. And that means that Elizabeth will have, in the last two years of her term, an ally in the Iguazu Palace.
There is an important detail in this story. Even before the election, Moro had already said that Elizabeth would have open doors in an eventual government of her own. The statement gained another weight after October 4.
But politics rarely delivers everything at once.
Moro’s victory also represents the defeat of the political group that broke with Elizabeth. Sandro Alex did not reach the state government. Marcelo Rangel also did not achieve the project of returning to Congress. The group that for years had a decisive influence on the policy of Ponta Grossa now needs to reorganize its parts. And that is perhaps the most interesting point of the election.
Elizabeth is not the only leader who comes out of this process with space to move. Mabel Canto, even outside the mayor’s group, also preserves political capital and arrives at the next electoral cycle with conditions even of having a major successor candidacy. His father, Jocelito Canto, also represents the strength of the Cantos and by having supported Moro, they may have invitations from the elected governor to compose the new government. In this wake, allies have priorities, then dissidents with expressive votes and willingness to change sides.
The state election didn’t end with just a new governor. She redesigned the force relations in Ponta Grossa.
