Storm Warning Red in Paraná Forecasts Winds Over 100 km/h
Storm Warning Red in Paraná Affects 89 Cities This Saturday (7), with Forecast of Winds Over 100 km/h, Heavy Rain and Hail

The red storm warning on Paraná puts 89 municipalities in a situation of great danger on Saturday, with forecasts of heavy rainfall, hailfall and gusts of wind that can exceed 100 km/h. The National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet) warning mainly covers the western, southwest and central-south regions of the state. In Ponta Grossa and Campos Gerais, the population is also expected to keep up with weather updates, although the municipality is not on the list of 89 cities under red alert.
Inmet's statement is valid from 0h00 to 23h59 this Saturday. The forecast indicates accumulated more than 60 millimeters of rain per hour or more than 100 millimeters throughout the day, in addition to the possibility of intense winds and hail.
Weather conditions pose a high risk of flashes, falls of trees, interruptions in the supply of electricity, damage to plantations, floods and difficulties in traffic.
Simepar confirms storm advance by Paraná
According to a bulletin released by the Paraná Environmental Technology and Monitoring System (Simepar), at 5:26 this Saturday, storms accompanied by heavy rain, high lightning incidence and the possibility of intense gusts of wind were already in activity between the Southwest and Central-South regions of the state.
The phenomena mainly affected municipalities near the currency with Santa Catarina.
Up to the time of the update, the largest recorded gust of wind had been 63.7 km/h, measured by an anemometer installed in the municipality of Palmas, in the South of Paraná.
Simepar also identified new areas of instability moving through Paraguay and Argentina towards the Southwest and West Paraná regions.
Weather radar images show rain cores associated with the extratropical cyclone formation process.
Extratropical Cyclone Influences Weather in State
The formation of the extratropical cyclone and the displacement of a cold front favor the development of storms in different regions of the Paraná.
According to Simepar, the trend is that rainfall areas advance from southwest to northeast over the course of Saturday, following the displacement of the cold front towards Southeast Brazil.
The forecast released by the body also points to a gradual reduction in instability until the end of the day, with an expectation of a decrease in conditions favorable to the occurrence of storms.
Despite this trend, the Inmet red alert remains valid until 23:59, requiring attention of the population in the areas covered by the warning.
Ponta Grossa and Campos Gerais should keep up with alerts
Although Ponta Grossa is not among the 89 municipalities included in the red alert, the forecast of instability in Paraná requires monitoring of the updates of the meteorological organs.
In the Campos Gerais region, the population should be aware of the possibility of changes in weather conditions, especially during the advance of the cold front.
The red alert represents the highest level of severity used by the Inmet, while the orange alert also indicates weather hazard and need for precaution.
It is important to note that gusts above 100 km/h represent a foreseen possibility for areas under alert, and not a speed already recorded in all municipalities.
