The man who invaded the CMEI in Curitiba and held 13 children hostage died during an intervention by the Paraná Military Police early on Friday night (9). The children were safely removed from the unit after hours of police mobilization.
The case took place in the Educação Infantil Municipal Center located in Rua Genauro Ferreira de Almeida, in the São Braz neighborhood, in the Paraná capital. The incident began in the afternoon and prompted a large mobilization of security forces.
Information released during the care indicated that the man was armed and had entered a room where the children were, who were held as hostages.
BOPE took over crisis management
With the confirmation of the situation involving hostages, the Special Police Operations Battalion (BOPE) was activated to act in the management of the crisis and conduct the negotiations.
The perimeter of CMEI São Braz in Curitiba was isolated by the Military Police during the operation. Other security and emergency forces teams were also mobilized, while family members waited for information about the children.
The incident remained ongoing for more than two hours. During the final stage of the operation, specialized teams entered the space where the invader was holding the hostages.
The man died during the police intervention. All 13 children were safely removed from the scene.
13 children were rescued
After the incident was closed, the military police reported that the rescued children were well. They would be referred for medical evaluation and psychological care before being reunited with family members.
The City of Curitiba also mobilized professionals of the Municipal Secretariat of Education to provide assistance to children, servants of the unit and families affected by the situation.
Psychological care should be part of the measures adopted after the episode, given the impact caused by the occurrence within the educação infantil unit.

During the afternoon, preliminary information came to indicate a greater number of possible hostages within the unit. At the end of the operation, however, the rescue of 13 children was reported.
The case drew attention throughout Paraná and mobilized Military Police, BOPE and emergency teams in the São Braz neighborhood.
