Pintando um Sorriso in Castro delivers oral hygiene kits and promotes guidance on brushing and prevention in municipal schools

Students from the Castro municipal education network began receiving, on Thursday (1st), new oral hygiene kits through the Painting a Smile project. The action is developed by the municipal secretariats of Health and Education and seeks to encourage habits of prevention and care of teeth since childhood.
The last stage of the 2026 programming began at the Vicente Machado Municipal School. The work is expected to progress through the other educational units of the urban and rural areas by the end of the year, reaching the students of the municipal network.
Project has been operating for 16 years in Castro
Created 16 years ago, Painting a Smile promotes educational activities on the right way to brush your teeth and on measures that help prevent oral health problems, such as cavities and other diseases and injuries.
In addition to the guidance given in schools, each child receives a free kit consisting of toothbrush, toothpaste and floss. This year, the action also features the delivery of a miniature of the character Zé Gotinha.
According to the technical coordinator of Dentistry, Marcelo Nocera, the project went through changes in 2026 and had the activities divided throughout the year.
“The painting of a smile is growing every year. In 2026, we refined the project and divided it into three stages, carried out each quarter. In the latter, we will conclude the action with the delivery of the kits," he says.
Action will reach all municipal schools
According to the municipal secretary of Education, Luciane Farias, the distribution began at the Vicente Machado Municipal School and will continue to the other institutions.
“We started the action at the Vicente Machado Municipal School and now we will carry it out in all the schools of the city and the countryside until the end of the year, contemplating all the students,” he emphasizes.
The Municipal Secretary of Health, Matilvani Moreira, also reinforced the importance of preventive work developed with children.
“Caring for oral health is essential. I appreciate the commitment of all the professionals who are part of this project that enlarges the municipality of Castro,” he says.
The proposal of the secretariats is to use the school environment to strengthen hygiene habits that can be maintained by children also outside the classroom, contributing to the prevention of dental problems throughout life.
