"Teacher, read this": letter denounces sexual abuse and ends with family of 13-year-old student imprisoned in PG

A letter handed by a 13-year-old girl to a teacher triggered an investigation that ended in the pre-trial detention of three people from her own family on Wednesday morning at Ponta Grossa. The operation was carried out by the Civil Police of Paraná (PCPR), through the Child and Adolescent Victims of Crime Protection Center (Nucria).

The inmates are the parents of the teenager, aged 50 and 62, and her brother-in-law, aged 45. The three are investigated for crimes such as rape of vulnerable, favoring prostitution or sexual exploitation and ill-treatment.

The action was called Operation Moloch.

Letter delivered at school revealed the case

According to the Civil Police, the case began to be investigated after the teenager asked for help at the school where she is studying. She handed a letter to a teacher reporting the situation she would be facing inside the house.

After the request for help, the pedagogical team hosted the spontaneous revelation and activated the protection network.The adolescent was referred for medical care and, subsequently, for institutional reception.

Parents would have received money

According to the investigations of PCPR, the parents of the victim would be chemical dependents and would no longer provide basic care to the teenager, who would also be subjected to physical assaults and constant episodes of neglect. The investigation also points to a situation considered more serious by the investigators: the parents would have allowed and facilitated sexual abuse by the teenager’s brother-in-law.

According to the police, the violence took place inside the family’s home. In exchange for collusion with the abuses, the parents allegedly received money, which would be used to sustain chemical dependence. Individual circumstances and responsibilities are still under investigation.

Preventive prisons

In front of the elements gathered in the investigation, the delegate of PCPR Renata Batista represented the preventive detention of the three investigated. The warrants were issued by the 2nd Court of Domestic and Family Violence against Women and the Court of Crimes against Children, Adolescents and the Elderly of Ponta Grossa, after the 18th Prosecutor’s Office of the District had given a favorable opinion.

After the execution of the court orders, the three suspects were referred to the prison system and remain at the disposal of the justice system.

The Civil Police reinforces that reports of violence, abuse or sexual exploitation against children and adolescents can be made anonymously. The information can be passed on by telephone 197, of PCPR, by 181, of the Disk-Denunciation, or directly to Nucria of Ponta Grossa, by the number (42) 3225-3856.

The identity of the adolescent is preserved because of the legislation protecting children and adolescents.
