Conflict in Campos Borges ends with termination of proceedings; parliamentarian reported incident and colleague admitted to losing control
A discussion between councilors ended in physical aggressions and led to the closure of the session of the Câmara Municipal of Campos Borges, in the North of Rio Grande do Sul, on Monday (26). Ivo Tiaraju Borba (MDB) and Adriano Nogueira (PDT) exchanged punches and slaps after Nogueira threw a glass of water against the colleague, who was speaking in the stands.

Borba criticized statements made by Nogueira in the previous session. During the speech, the emedebist stated that the use of low-key words compromised respect and ethics in the Legislative. Nogueira interrupted the speech, got up and threw the glass against Borba. The two then clashed in front of the other members.

The mayor, Mateus Carvalho Merlin (PL), asked for order in the plenary, but the confusion was only contained with the intervention of other councilors. The work has been completed. According to the report, Borba suffered head and neck injuries and recorded an occurrence in the Civil Police against his colleague.
Councillors present versions of the episode
Borba said he advocated dialogue, respect and ethics in the House. He also denied the existence of any prior disagreement between the two. In a note, Nogueira claimed that there were provocations in previous sessions and acknowledged having lost control. The councilman stated that his demonstration was related to the defense of residents who, according to him, were not being served for political-partisan reasons.
The President of the Legislative Assembly repudiated the episode and said that violence will not be tolerated. Merlin advocated that political differences be conducted with respect, civility and observance of the institutional order. The Association of Councilors of the MDB of Rio Grande do Sul also spoke. The entity lent solidarity to Borba and charged legal measures and the expulsion of the aggressor.
