Anvisa approves 5 new pens for diabetes and obesity treatment
Medications are produced by two Indian laboratories
The National Agency of Vigilância Sanitária (Anvisa) has approved the registration of five new injectable drugs for the treatment of type 2 diabetes and obesity.
The products will be marketed in the form of applicator pens containing semaglutide or liraglutide - substances that act directly on the metabolism of the patient, helping in the control of blood glucose and weight loss.
Semaglutide and liraglutide are active ingredients that make up the so-called GLP-1 receptor agonist (activator) drugs, a hormone that, under ideal conditions, is naturally produced by the intestine after food intake and that signals sensation to the brain.
The five new GLP-1 pens are produced by two Indian laboratories, Biocon and OneSource Specialty, and were registered in Brazil by three companies: Farma Vision Import and Export of Medicines; Aché Laboratórios Farmacêuticos and Dr. Reddys Farmacêutica do Brasil.
The three new medications indicated for the treatment of diabetes are:
Aribet (liraglutide), manufactured by Biocon and marketed by Farma Vision Importação e Exportação de Medicamentos Ltda;
Embeltah (semaglutide), produced by OneSource Specialty registered by Dr. Reddys Farmacêutica do Brasil Ltda;
Sevema (semaglutide), registered by Aché Laboratórios Farmacêuticos S.A. and also manufactured by OneSource Specialty.
The medications indicated for the treatment of obesity, in conjunction with physical exercise and change in diet, are:
Lyrza (liraglutide), the registration of which was granted to Farma Vision Import and Export of Medicines Ltda, of the same Indian company Biocon;
Wylovol (liraglutide), manufactured by Biocon and marketed in Brazil by Farma Vision.
With the five new registrations published in the Official Journal of the Union, Anvisa has already approved a total of 20 pens of GLP-1 in 2026.
