Ponta Grossa Municipality Proposes Adjustment to 30-Day Paternity Leave Law
Project Submitted to the Council Corrects Legislative Provision and Provides Maternity Leave for Parents Raising Children Alone or When the Mother Cannot Care for the Child

Prefeitura de Ponta Grossa has forwarded to Câmara Municipal a bill to adjust the legislation dealing with 30-day paternity leave. The proposal establishes the removal from the birth or adoption and contemplates situations in which the father needs to take care of the child.
Bill No. 360/2026, authored by the Executive, amends article 44 of Lei Municipal No. 14.648, of May 30, 2023. The proposed wording also provides for maternity leave to be extended to single-parent parents or in situations where the mother is unable to provide the necessary care for the child.
Correction in legislation
In the justification sent to the councilors, prefeita Elizabeth Schmidt explains that the measure seeks to correct the device indicated in a previous amendment, made by Lei Municipal no 15.968, of July 1, 2026.
To this end, the Executive proposes to repeal this law and insert the wording in article 44 of the legislation of 2023. According to the message, the objective is to adapt the text to the Municipal Organic Law and ensure the correct application of the benefit.
The City Council presents the change as a technical adjustment to ensure the coherence of municipal legislation. Thus, the proposal should not be treated as the unprecedented creation of the 30-day license, but as a correction in the way the law is provided for in the norm.
Processing in the Chamber
The bill entered the House on October 23. In accordance with the file submitted, the proposal was sent to the Legislation, Justice and Drafting Commission on October 26, with a deadline to give its opinion until November 13.
