The risk of tornadoes on the Paraná increases as of Thursday and especially on Friday, when the combination of a cold front, an extratropical cyclone, heat and a large amount of moisture is expected to create conditions for severe storms in different regions of the state.

According to Climatempo, the atmospheric scenario can favor the formation of supercells, storms of great intensity that, under certain conditions, can produce tornadoes, large hail, microexplosions and very strong gusts of wind.

In addition to the Paraná, areas of São Paulo and Mato Grosso from the South are also within the attention range. However, the forecast indicates that the territory of Paraná will be among the areas that require greater monitoring during the passage of the system.

Friday will be period of greater attention on the Paraná

The forecast indicates that Friday should focus the most favorable conditions for severe weather episodes on the Paraná.

The storms could cause heavy rain in a short period of time, electric shocks, hailfall and gusts that can exceed 90 km/h at points hit by the strongest cells.

The possibility of a tornado does not mean that the phenomenon will occur throughout the state. The weather forecast indicates that the atmosphere will have favorable conditions for storms capable of producing this type of phenomenon in a localized way.

Therefore, the recommendation is to follow the weather updates and any official alerts throughout Thursday and Friday.

Cold front and cyclone increase instability

The severe weather scenario is related to the intensification of low pressure areas over southern Brazil and Paraguay.

This system should contribute to the formation and organization of a new cold front, in addition to the deepening of an extratropical cyclone.

At the same time, a stream of hot and humid air from the Amazon region is advancing towards the South of the country. This flow, known as a low-level jet, carries large volumes of moisture and serves as a fuel for storm formation.

When hot, humid air meets the cooler air associated with the cold front, the atmosphere becomes highly unstable.

Another factor considered important is the change in the direction and speed of the winds according to the altitude. This condition can increase the rotation within storms and favor the formation of so-called supercells.

Hail and micro-explosions also worry

In addition to the risk of tornadoes on Paraná, the forecast points to the possibility of other severe phenomena.

Among them are the large hailfall and so-called micro-explosions, characterized by strong downward currents of air that hit the ground and spread intense gusts in different directions.

These winds can cause falling trees, flashing, damage to structures, and disruptions in the power supply.

There is also the possibility of large rainfall in short periods, increasing the risk of flooding in urban areas.

The system advances in the South of Brazil

The cold front is expected to gain organization between Paraguay and the South of Brazil during Friday. Subsequently, the system is expected to advance towards São Paulo and Mato Grosso South between Friday night and Saturday (12).

On the Paraná, residents should keep up with forecast updates because the exact location of the most severe storms may change as atmospheric systems evolve.

In Ponta Grossa and Campos Gerais, as well as in other regions of Paraná, the orientation is to be aware of weather warnings and possible changes in weather conditions over the next few days.
