With R$ 1 Billion, Proseg Program Reduces Accidents and Deaths on Paraná Highways
The Paraná Safety and Traffic Signaling Program modernized signage on nearly 10,000 kilometers of state roads, resulting in a significant drop in accident and fatality rates.

The Government of Paraná, through the Department of Roads (DER/PR) and the Secretariat of Infrastructure and Logistics (SEIL), has achieved historic results in the preservation of lives and in the modernization of the state road network with the consolidation of the Road Safety and Signalling Program (Proseg Paraná). With a contribution of R$ 1.070 billion for the period from 2021 to October 2026, the initiative encompasses structural interventions on 9,965 kilometers of highways throughout the State.
Investments in road safety directly reflect the significant drop in accident and traffic mortality rates. In 2019, the State recorded 10.07 accidents per 10,000 vehicles. With the gradual advance of the works and the increase in annual investments from 2021 – reaching peaks of financial contribution in 2024, with R$ 317.5 million, and in 2025, with R$ 222 million – the number of claims fell to 2.89 per 10 thousand vehicles in 2026.
The mortality curve followed the same trend of drastic fall. The deaths indicator, which in 2021 recorded 0.853 deaths per 10,000 vehicles, shrank by almost half in 2026, with 0.426 per 10,000 vehicles. The data are from the Coordinação de Segurança Viária do DER/PR.
For the state secretary of Infrastructure and Logistics, Fernando Furiatti, the figures reflect the commitment of the state management to combine innovation, technique and total focus on the protection of highway users.
“The road safety of the Paraná is treated as an absolute priority. The investment of more than R$ 1 billion in Proseg demonstrates that technical planning and continuous financial contribution revert directly to the preservation of lives. “Half-reducing the death rate on our roads shows us that we are on the right track, combining great engineering infrastructure with state-of-the-art signalling and physical protection for drivers,” he said.
The work of Proseg includes from the elaboration of executive projects to the supply and installation of modern security devices along the Paraná highways. According to the Coordination of Road Safety of the DER/PR, the integrated planning allowed to cover in a homogeneous way critical sections of the whole State with interventions of high visibility and resistance.
“Through the Proseg Paraná, we work to make state highways safer by combining high-durability horizontal and vertical signage, new safety devices, and deployment of metal fenders on higher-risk stretches. They are engineering actions that help guide drivers, preventing collisions and saving lives on a daily basis,” says Narayana Rohn Cardozo, Coordinator of Traffic Engineering and Road Safety.
INTERVENTIONS
To date, the balance of interventions of the Proseg Paraná counts 8,703.30 kilometers of axle paints and edges in horizontal signage; 135,462 units of regulation and warning plates installed; 459.60 kilometers of metallic defenses deployed in strategic stretches or sharp curves and 2,391,023 units of auxiliary devices, such as balls and reflectives.
The program continues with active work fronts until October 2026, consolidating the Paraná as a national reference in the modernization and technical management of highways.
