6-Month-Old Baby Resumes Breathing After Phone Guidance in PG

A baby of only 6 months was saved on Monday morning in Ponta Grossa, after parents received telephone guidance to perform airway clearance maneuvers in the Ouro Verde region. The incident mobilized the Fire Department and the Mobile Emergency Service (Samu).

The call was recorded around 5:03. According to the information provided to BnT Online, the child had a severe condition, with signs such as cyanosis — bluish skin coloration caused by lack of oxygenation — and hypotonia. While a team was being mobilized, emergency workers remained on the phone with the family, guiding the mother and father on the maneuvers that should be performed.

After approximately five minutes of guidance and attempts by family members, the baby presented a response and resumed breathing.

Difficulty finding the address

In addition to the severity of the situation, another factor increased the tension during the care. The family lives in a region of occupation where the street was not registered in the systems used by the emergency teams. According to the report received by BnT Online, while the parents performed the maneuvers on the child, the professionals tried to identify exactly where the residence was.

A joint work between the Firefighter Operations Center (Cobom) and the Samu regulation, including the service radio operator, was needed to locate the address and to send an ambulance to the site. The integration allowed, at the same time that the Fire Department guided the relatives by telephone, the Samu to advance in the identification of the location and the displacement of the service team.
