Baby's cry leads neighbors to find dead doctor in Maringá
Doctor killed in Maringá: Gassi Mazia, 37, was found stabbed; partner was arrested and case is under investigation as feminicide

The case of the dead doctor in Maringá mobilized security forces in the north of Paraná on Saturday night (5). Gassi Paola de Souza Mazia, 37, was found stabbed to death inside an apartment. Her partner, 25, was arrested in flagrante, and the Civil Police of Paraná (PCPR) investigates the crime as femicide.
Gassi worked as a family doctor at the New Alliance Basic Health Unit (UBS) in Sarandi. The crime occurred in an apartment near Avenida Itororó, in the area of Zone 2 of Maringá.
According to information released by the Civil Police, the doctor and the companion had a troubled relationship and had recently re-established. On Saturday night, the two would have argued inside the apartment. During the discussion, the victim was struck with a knife and died still on the spot.
Baby was inside the apartment
The couple’s son, a baby of approximately eight months, was inside the property at the time of the occurrence. Residents noticed the crying of the child and the unusual movement in the apartment.
Teams of the Military Police, the Mobile Emergency Service (Samu) and the Fire Department were mobilized. When the agents arrived at the apartment, Gassi was already dead. The baby was found in the property and was under the care of family members.
Companion was located in Mandaguari
After leaving the apartment, the companion of the doctor was located by the Military Police in Mandaguari, also in the North of the Paraná, in the residence of the mother.
The man had injuries caused by a white weapon. He received medical attention and was referred to the Hospital Universitário of Maringá (HUM), where he remained interned under police escort.
Civil police said he was arrested in flagrante. The investigation also seeks to clarify the circumstances under which the suspect suffered the injuries.
Suspect worked in Marialva City Hall
The 25-year-old man worked as a legal advisor to the City of Marialva. After the disclosure of official information involving the server, the municipal administration ordered his exoneration.
The City of Marialva reported that the shutdown was formalized and published in the Official Gazette. The municipality also expressed repudiation of violence against women and reported that, during the period in which the server worked in the administration, there were no known records of violent or aggressive behavior in the professional environment.
Sarandi City Hall lamented the death of Gassi, who worked in the city's primary care, and highlighted the contribution of the doctor to the public health of the city.
Police Investigate Feminicide
The Civil Police of Paraná opened an investigation to clarify all the circumstances of the crime. The case of the dead doctor in Maringá is investigated as femicide.
Gassi Paola de Souza Mazia was 37 years old and left behind a son of approximately eight months. As of Sunday afternoon, authorities had not released new details on the progress of the investigation.
