Castro was represented between October 9 and 12 in the state stage of the Youth Games of Paraná (JOJUPs), held in Umuarama. The military delegation participated in the disputes of women's basketball, men's and women's chess and men's table tennis.

The competition brought together young athletes from different cities of the Paraná and served as an opportunity to expand the sports experience of Castro’s representatives in different sports.

Women's basketball state elite

In women's basketball, Castro entered the Golden Division, considered the main state category of the sport. The under-17 team was led by coach Vinicius Carneiro and reached the third consecutive participation in the elite of the JOJUPs.

The municipality had won the bronze medal in 2024 and the silver in 2025. According to the local organization, the sequence represents a milestone for a collective modality in military sport.

In 2026, the team started a new cycle and counted on athletes between 13 and 15 years old. In the group stage, Castro faced Ubiratã, Ponta Grossa and Curitiba, ending the participation with a victory and two defeats.

Despite not advancing, the competition allowed the young athletes to face traditional teams and accumulate experience for the coming seasons.

Chess has male and female participation

Castro was also present in chess disputes. The athletes participated in the conventional, fast and lightning modalities, with representatives both male and female.

Participation in different formats of the sport integrates the work of sports training developed in the municipality and provides young people with contact with competitions at the state level.

Table tennis back at the Youth Games

One of the highlights of the delegation was the return of Castro’s table tennis to state competitions. After a period without representatives of the municipality in the state games of the sport, the city returned to the disputes in 2026 with a men's team.

The resumption is considered an important step to strengthen table tennis and expand the presence of the sport among young athletes from the military.

The delegation had the support of the City of Castro and the Municipal Secretariat of Sport. The portfolio highlighted the commitment of athletes, technicians and members of the commissions and reinforced the intention to continue investing in base sport and the formation of new talents.
