Collective transport may have buses exclusive for women in Ponta Grossa
Proposal is on the agenda of the Chamber this Wednesday (7); amendment leaves the definition of the number of reserved vehicles to the Municipality

The creation of exclusive buses for women in Ponta Grossa is on the agenda of the ordinary session of Câmara Municipal this Wednesday (7). Authored by the councilor Dr. Erick Camargo, the Bill No. 161/2026 provides for vehicles reserved for the female public in the times of greatest movement of public transport.
The matter is related for first discussion, along with a modification amendment submitted by the author himself. The inclusion on the agenda does not mean that the measure has already been approved or is in operation. By design, the use of reserved buses will be optional.
Passengers may continue to choose mixed-use vehicles from the municipal system.
The amount will be determined by the Executive.
The original version determined the destination of at least 20% of the fleet for exclusive attention to women at peak hours. However, the amending amendment removes this percentage and proposes that the amount be defined by the Municipal Executive Power, considering demand, operational viability and public interest.

The original text establishes as peak times the periods from 6 am to 9 am and from 5 pm to 8 pm, excluding Saturdays, Sundays and holidays. The proposal also provides for the adaptation to be made with existing vehicles, without requiring the purchase of new buses. The reserved vehicles must receive identification by stickers and external and internal visual signage, according to the regulations of the Executive.
Passengers can travel with children
Another change introduced in the amendment deals with the companions. The new text allows women to board with children up to 12 years of age, as well as children or dependents with disabilities, regardless of age. In the original wording, the authorization covered children up to 14 years of age. The amendment therefore changes this limit and expressly adds the possibility of accompanying people with disabilities.
Proposal to prevent harassment
In the justification, Dr. Erick informs that the project arose from an initiative of academics of the Law course of Unisecal. According to the document, the intention is to offer an alternative transport that contributes to the safety of women and to the prevention of harassment, sexual harassment and violence, especially in situations of overcrowding.
The agenda records the admissibility opinion of the Committee on Legislation, Justice and Drafting, as well as positive statements by the Finance and Transport Committees. The amendment also received favourable opinions for its processing. The text provides for entry into force 90 days after the publication of the possible law. The documents presented do not contain the result of the vote on Wednesday.
