Seedorf at Corinthians is the main news this Sunday (11) in Brazilian football. The São Paulo club announced Clarence Seedorf as the new coach of the men’s team, with a contract valid until December 2027. The Dutchman assumes the post left by Fernando Diniz and returns to Brazilian football, now on the edge of the field.

The hiring ends the Corinthian board’s search for a new commander. Other names came to be evaluated and sought by the club before the definition by the former 50-year-old player.

Marcelo Paz, the football executive of Corinthians, participated directly in the conversations that ended with the agreement between the parties.

In a demonstration released by the club, Seedorf highlighted the responsibility of taking on the new challenge and said that he intends to build a competitive team, with intensity and commitment.

Corinthians bets on Seedorf’s experience

President Osmar Stabile highlighted the size of Seedorf's career in football and said that the coach's profile corresponds to the model of work desired by Corinthians to try to react in the Brazilian Championship.

The board also took into account Seedorf’s knowledge of Brazilian football.

Before starting his career as a coach, the Dutchman had a prominent pass for Botafogo, between 2012 and 2013. He ended his career as a player after defending the Carioca club.

Seedorf's career as a player

Clarence Seedorf built one of the most successful careers of his generation.

The midfielder has won UEFA Champions League four times defending three different clubs: Ajax, Real Madrid and Milan, two wins with the Italian team.

He also competed in the 1998 World Cup for the Netherlands, which finished in fourth place.

After leaving Botafogo, Seedorf began his coaching career at Milan in 2014.

Later, he worked for Shenzhen FC in China, Deportivo La Coruña in Spain, and the Cameroon national team.

Seedorf returns to work as coach

Seedorf's arrival at the Corinthians also represents the return of the Dutchman to command of a team after several years away from the role of coach.

His last job was in the Cameroon national team, which ended in 2019.

More recently, Seedorf was a member of the supervisory board of the Dutch Football Federation (KNVB).

In addition to the international experience, the knowledge of the Portuguese language and the previous passage through Brazil were considered positive points by the Corinthian leadership.

Arrival in Brazil

Seedorf and his technical committee are expected to land in Brazil in the coming days. Corinthians will also officially release the details of the presentation and the first news conference of the new coach.

The challenge will be immediate: regain the performance of the Timão in the Brazilian Championship and move the team away from the lower part of the classification.

Seedorf’s contract with Corinthians will be valid until the end of the 2027 season.
