Crown advances in expansion of R$500 million in PG and will have duplication project of avenue

The expansion of Crown Embalagens’ factory in the Ponta Grossa Industrial District has advanced one more step. A Commitment published in the Official Journal of the Municipality on Thursday (17) details the measures that must be met by the company due to the impacts caused by the expansion of the unit. Among the requirements are works on access to the industry and the elaboration of the executive project for the duplication of the entire Crown Avenue.

The document was signed between Crown Embalagens Metálicas da Amazônia S.A. and the Research and Urban Planning Institute of Ponta Grossa (Iplan), within the Neighbourhood Impact Study (NIS) process of the expansion. The term was signed on September 1 and now officially appears in the edition of the Municipal Journal.

The industrial intervention provides for the construction of a new shed intended for production areas, administrative sectors and support spaces. The development is at km 503.4 of BR-376, in the Industrial District. The document also cites external courtyards, parking, drainage infrastructure, new electrical installations and structure prepared for the operation of industrial equipment.

Expansion could raise production to 3.6 billion cans

The work is linked to the project announced by Crown itself in May 2025 for the installation of the third high-speed production line at the Punta Grossense plant.

According to the company, the unit was built in 2011 and currently has two production lines with a joint capacity of approximately 2.4 billion cans per year. With the third line, the capacity is expected to reach 3.6 billion units per year, making Ponta Grossa the largest Crown operation in Brazil. The new capacity was planned to meet the growing demand from manufacturers of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages in the South.

When the Water and Land Institute (IAT) granted the Extension Installation License, in February this year, it was disclosed that the project foresees investment of approximately R$ 500 million and expectation of creation of about 350 direct and indirect jobs.

The forecast originally announced by Crown was for the start of commercial production of the third line during the third quarter of 2026. The now published Term of Commitment, however, does not inform whether the new line has already entered into operation.

Crown will have to make improvements in access

In addition to the expansion within the factory, the document establishes obligations related to the traffic and the surrounding infrastructure. One of the measures provides for the design and implementation of improvements in the so-called “Track 01”, which comprises the access of the highway to Crown Avenue and continues to Vicente Nadal Street.

The planned interventions include resurfacing or reconstruction of the pavement, according to technical evaluation, as well as implantation or reconstruction of drainage where necessary, horizontal and vertical signage, complementary signage and landscaping.

After the issuance of the Construction License, Crown will have up to 180 days to present the executive project of these improvements to the municipal bodies. Once approved, the execution should take up to another 180 days.

Project foresees duplication of the entire Crown Avenue

Another point that draws attention in the document is Crown Avenue. The company must draw up the executive draft for the duplication of the entire route. The work should contemplate a new layout of the avenue, geometric design, topographic survey, earth movement, drainage and concrete paving. Also planned are pavement projects, underground electrical power cabling and data networks, public lighting, road signs and landscaping.

The deadline established for the submission of this project is up to 210 days from the issuance of the Construction Bill. It is important to note that the document does not require Crown to perform all duplication of Crown Avenue. The obligation established for this stretch is the elaboration of the executive project, intended to subsidize future interventions and the planning of the road infrastructure of the Industrial District.

Already in the “Track 01”, between the road access, Crown Avenue and Vicente Nadal Street, the commitment involves both the project and the execution of the improvements. The term also establishes that any expropriations necessary to make the avenue compatible with neighboring land will be the responsibility of the Municipality, and not of the company.

Alvarás are bound by the measures

The document sets out a series of conditions for the industrial project to move forward. The maintenance of the Construction Alvará will be linked to compliance with the schedules and mitigation measures. During the works, Crown will also signal truck access and traffic areas, control atmospheric emissions from equipment, maintain machinery in proper conditions, properly dispose of construction waste, and control noise levels.

For the issuance of Habite-se, the company must also repair any damage caused by heavy vehicles in the paving of access roads. A photographic survey prior to the works should serve as a reference to differentiate damage caused by the expansion from those that already existed previously. The application of a dust control plan is also planned, including humidification in drought periods.

Expansion Consolidates Ponta Grossa Factory

With the third line, Crown’s capacity in Ponta Grossa is expected to grow approximately 50% from the current 2.4 billion to 3.6 billion cans annually. The company itself states that the expansion will transform the local unit into its largest Brazilian operation.

The publication of the Term of Commitment shows that the project goes beyond interventions within the industrial field. The increased movement associated with the factory is also leading to the forecast of road improvements in the surroundings, including interventions in access to BR-376 and the planning of the future duplication of Crown Avenue.
