Extratropical Cyclone Forms and Increases Risk of Storms and Strong Winds in Ponta Grossa
Paraná is under storm warning; forecast indicates heavy rain, wind gusts and possibility of hail in the next days
The arrival of an extratropical cyclone in southern Brazil is expected to cause changes in weather in several regions of the Paraná, including Campos Gerais and Ponta Grossa. The system should increase atmospheric instability and bring possibility of storms, strong winds, lightning and even hailfall.
According to weather alerts, the Paraná is under storm warning between Friday (18) and Sunday (20). The forecast indicates that the instability begins advancing through the state on Friday and gain strength mainly on Saturday, when there is a possibility of more intense wind gusts.
For Friday (18) and Sunday (20), the warning indicates the possibility of rain of up to 30 millimeters per hour or 50 millimeters throughout the day, in addition to winds that can reach 60 km / h. Already for Saturday (19), the scenario is of greater attention, with prediction of greater accumulated and gusts of wind that can reach up to 100 km / h, in addition to the possibility of hail.
In Ponta Grossa, the change in time should occur with increased cloudiness and possibility of stronger rain strokes during the period of greatest instability. Although the cyclone forms over the ocean, the low pressure areas associated with the system favor the formation of storms in Paraná.

The forecast indicates that on Saturday the instability should intensify in the state, with the risk of heavy rain, electric shocks and gusts of wind. The center-south areas of the Paraná are among the regions that should be taken care of during the system operation.
On Sunday, rain is expected to continue in different regions of the Paraná, with the possibility of more persistent rain periods and new isolated storms. The low pressure system should not advance directly over the state, but its areas of instability continue to influence weather conditions.
The guidance is for residents to follow the warnings of the Defesa Civil and weather agencies, especially in risk areas, avoiding open locations during storms and keeping an eye on possible tree falls, floods and flashes.
