IPTU in Ponta Grossa: residents can get exemption or discount; see who is eligible
Residents of Ponta Grossa can request exemption or reduction of IPTU until October 31. Find out who is eligible and where to get free guidance.

Residents of Ponta Grossa who are entitled to the exemption or reduction of the IPTU may receive free guidance to apply for the benefit next week. The action “Exemption in Action” will be held between October 26 and 28, in the Social Assistance Reference Centers (CRAS) Costa Rica and New Russia.
The initiative seeks to assist mainly low-income families, the elderly and people with disabilities who can meet the criteria established for granting benefits. During the services, teams will be available to clarify questions and help in the fulfillment of the requirements.
The deadline to request the exemption or reduction of the IPTU ends on October 31. The benefit must be renewed annually, including by those who have already received the exemption in previous years.
The action is promoted by the Public Prosecutor’s Office of Paraná (MPPR), in partnership with Prefeitura de Ponta Grossa, through the Social Assistance Foundation (FASPG) and the Municipal Secretariat of Administration, in addition to the State University of Ponta Grossa (UEPG), through the Legal Workshop project.
Who is entitled to the IPTU exemption in Ponta Grossa?
According to the rules presented by the organization of the action, different groups of taxpayers may be entitled to exemption or reduction of the tax.
Criteria include:
Low-income families: people with a monthly income of up to two minimum wages, owners of a single property used as a residence, with a built area of up to 70 m2;
Seniors over 65 years old: taxpayers who meet the same income and property criteria, but with properties up to 140 m2;
Persons with disabilities: the benefit may also include persons with disabilities, permanent disability or legal guardians for persons with mental disabilities or Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), as required;
Low-income taxpayers: may be entitled to a reduction in the value of the IPTU and municipal taxes;
Properties listed: properties recognized as historical heritage can receive a 70% discount on tax.
The granting of benefits depends on compliance with legal criteria and the analysis of the application by the municipality.
Lack of information may prevent families from accessing the benefit
The president of the Ponta Grossa Social Welfare Foundation, Tatyana Belo, points out that many residents are unaware of the possibility of requesting exemption or reduction of the tax.
“Many people have the right to exemption or reduction of the IPTU and do not know. Debts from IPTU can bring serious consequences and, in certain situations, lead to the loss of the property," he warns.
According to Tatyana, the initiative aims to bring public services closer to the population and facilitate access to the benefits provided for in municipal legislation.
“We invite all families to take advantage of this opportunity. Look for the CRAS, take away your doubts and guarantee this right before October 31,” he said.

Deadline for requesting exemption from the IPTU ends on October 31
Residents interested must be aware of the deadline of October 31, 2026 to submit the application.
One of the important points is that the IPTU exemption is not automatically maintained from year to year. Even the taxpayers previously contemplated need to renew the application.
The free guidance offered in the CRAS aims to help residents understand the requirements and correctly carry out the request, preventing people who meet the criteria from stopping seeking the benefit due to lack of information.
