September Green in Castro expands inclusion actions and will have event “Beyond the Label”

The Green September in Castro has gained new awareness-raising actions aimed at inclusion, accessibility and guarantee of the rights of people with disabilities. The Municipal Secretariat of Women and Inclusion carries out activities during the week and prepares for this Friday (18) the event "Beyond the Label", which seeks to broaden the debate on capacitism, neurodivergence and welcome to atypical families.

The September Green campaign has as one of the main milestones the National Day of Fighting Persons with Disabilities, celebrated on September 21. The mobilization seeks to draw attention to the need to guarantee rights, expand accessibility and stimulate a more inclusive society.

Since Monday (14), the Municipal Secretariat of Women and Inclusion also publishes interviews with people with disabilities and neurodivergent people. Among the reports are experiences of a person with acquired physical disability and a person with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).

Event “Beyond the Label”

The municipal secretary of Women and Inclusion, Bianca Rodrigues Mariano, says that the proposal of the program is to encourage society to see people beyond conditions or diagnoses.

“When you listen to an autistic person telling their own story, you understand that inclusion is not about charity. It’s about ensuring right, ensuring voice,” he says.

According to Bianca, the event “Beyond the Label”, scheduled for Friday (18), also aims to reinforce the confrontation with capacitism.

“Castro, let’s break capacitism together. Disability does not define anyone. What defines is the opportunity that we create,” the secretary emphasizes.

CRAFA serves atypical families in Castro

Among the public policies highlighted during the Green September is the CRAFA – Center of Reference in Welcoming Atypical Families.

The service offers foster care, parental guidance and follow-up to families of neurodivergent children and adolescents, working together with the areas of Health, Education and Social Assistance.

According to the data released by the Secretariat, CRAFA has already carried out 156 anamnesis and promoted 51 meetings. In all, 66 families participated in the activities, while 66 people completed the first and second classes. 27 referrals were also made to the care network.

More than 100 cases of ASD identified

Among the conditions recorded by the CRAFA are 103 cases of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and 43 cases of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD).

The survey also points to 29 cases still under investigation, 14 of intellectual disability, nine of Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD) and one case of high skills or overdotation.

The program of September Green in Castro aims to give visibility to the experiences of people with disabilities and neurodivergents, in addition to disseminating the services available to families and strengthening the debate on inclusion in the municipality.
