Ponta Grossa enters the radar to receive a prison aimed at the LGBTIQIAPN+ population
Document published in the Official Gazette registers discussion on the proposal; document does not define the installation municipality

Ponta Grossa was considered in a proposal for the implementation of a prison unit aimed at the LGBTIQIAPN+ population, as reported in the minutes of the Intersectoral Committee for the Follow-up of the Policy for the Promotion and Defense of LGBTI+ Rights of Paraná. The document was published in the Official State Gazette of October 15, 2026.
The minutes correspond to a meeting held on 11 June 2026. At the time, the representative of the Criminal Police Department, identified as Sandra Márcia, reported that the proposal remained under study and that there was no definition of the place of installation. The registration therefore does not represent a building announcement or confirmation of a unit in Ponta Grossa. The situation described refers to the stage of the discussions at the date of the meeting.

Proposal involves different institutions
According to the demonstration recorded in the minutes, the discussion was linked to the Diversity Policy of the Criminal Police Department and to a Technical Working Group set up by ordinance. The group brought together representatives of the Public Prosecutor’s Office, the Public Defender’s Office, the Court of Justice, the education and work areas and other sectors of the department, as well as members linked to policies aimed at the LGBTI+ population.
During the meeting, the representative clarified that the initiative was led directly by the Department of Criminal Police, through the team of the Criminal Treatment Division.
The Committee proposed to meet the project
Before the information, a meeting between the committee and representatives of the Criminal Police was advocated for the presentation of the proposal and discussion of suggestions.
The representative of the department made herself available to verify the possibility of the participation of the members of the committee in an expanded agenda of the technical group.
In addition to the eventual creation of a unit, the discussion could cover criteria for transferring persons deprived of liberty, regionalization of the units and host policies, according to the official register.
Location remains unconfirmed in document
Although Ponta Grossa appears as a possibility initially analyzed, the minutes do not establish the city as the headquarters of the unit nor present confirmation of deployment. As the October publication reproduces a discussion held in June, any subsequent advances depend on confirmation with the Criminal Police.
