Blockage stops trucks and threatens waste destination of 10 cities, says company

A blockage on a rural road of Teixeira Soares is affecting access to the Waste Treatment Center (CTR) Vila Velha and may compromise the disposal of waste from municipalities in the region, according to information released by Zero Waste. Images sent to the BnT show trucks, tractors and machines on a dirt road used during the operation.

According to the company, the problems began on Tuesday (15), when trucks that were going to the CTR were prevented from passing through the Ernesto Che Guevara Settlement region, in Teixeira Soares. According to the statement, the site is linked to the Landless Rural Workers Movement (MST).

Zero Waste reported that it registered an occurrence report and called in authorities after the vehicles were prevented from continuing the journey. The company states that the blockade occurs during an emergency operation aimed at maintaining the destination of waste from approximately ten municipalities served by the enterprise.

Alternative route was created after flooding

The special operation was set up after the Kalinoski Road, the main access to CTR Vila Velha, was flooded. With the impossibility of using the usual route, the waste was first taken to a transhipment unit in the Industrial District of Ponta Grossa.

Then the material follows in higher capacity trucks on the PR-438 and an alternative route to the treatment center at Teixeira Soares. According to the report cited by the company, six trucks were stopped without being able to reach the enterprise, while eight others were waiting for loading to go the same way.

Van with collaborators would also have been prevented

The situation would have worsened on Wednesday (16). According to Zero Waste, a van carrying employees was also prevented from following up to the CTR Vila Velha. With this, according to the company, the problem no longer only affects the transport of waste and also affects the displacement of workers responsible for the operation of the unit.

Zero Waste states that, if the interruption continues, there is a risk of compromise of the operation and the destination of the material sent by Ponta Grossa and the other municipalities served.

Term establishes obligations for company and municipality

A Commitment of Implementation of Socio-Environmental Compensation Measures signed between Zero Waste and the Municipality of Teixeira Soares establishes responsibilities related to the roads of access to the enterprise.

According to the document, it is up to the company to maintain the improvements implemented on the roads for access to the CTR, including signalling. The municipality has made a commitment to provide and deliver the necessary materials for the reform and maintenance of rural roads that receive maintenance by the company.

Zero Waste states that it has been fulfilling its obligations and maintains that the Municipality of Teixeira Soares would not be providing the necessary materials.
