Paraná Fish Leather to Be Highlighted at São Paulo Fashion Week
Paraná Fish Leather, produced in Pontal do Paraná, will be presented at São Paulo Fashion Week as a sustainable product.

The Paraná fish leather, produced by the Paraná Point Fish Leather Association (ACPPP), will be presented at São Paulo Fashion Week, one of the largest fashion events in the southern hemisphere. The Paraná product was chosen to represent the State at the Sebrae booth during the 61st edition of the fair, which will be held between October 13 and 18, at São Paulo.
The participation highlights a work developed by women from the Paraná Fish Leather Association, who transform a regional raw material into sustainable products for different markets. Fifteen women are currently part of the entity, which produces pieces using fish leather as the main material.
The product received, in 2026, the Geographical Indication (GI) registration granted by the National Institute of Industrial Property (INPI). The recognition confirms the link between the production and the territory of Pontal of Paraná, valuing a technique developed in the municipality.
During São Paulo Fashion Week, the fish leather of Paraná will be presented to stylists and professionals of the fashion industry as a sustainable alternative. In addition to the garment sector, the raw material can also be used in the production of handicrafts, handbags, jewellery, footwear and furniture industry products.
According to the consultant of Sebrae/PR, Maria Isabel Guimarães, the versatility and quality of the material were important factors for the participation of the product in the event. It highlights that leather has characteristics that allow different applications.
The president of the Pontal Fish Leather Association of Paraná, Ana Maria de Oliveira Ferreira de Almeida, explains that the material has resistance, no odor and contains no heavy metals. For her, participation in the fair represents an opportunity to broaden the recognition of the work carried out by the association.
The entity has about 100 products available for sale, with values ranging between R$ 8 and R$ 360. Despite the variety of ready-made parts, the main product marketed by the association is fish leather itself as a raw material.
The search for the recognition of the Geographical Indication began in 2023, in a partnership between the association and institutions such as Sebrae/PR, Secretariat of State for Science, Technology and Higher Education (SETI), Unespar/Paranaguá, Pontal Prefecture of Paraná and Provopar.
With the achievement of IG and the participation in an international fashion event, the fish leather of the Paraná expands its visibility and shows the economic, cultural and sustainable potential of a production developed on the Paraná coast.
The mayor of Pontal of Paraná, Rudão Gimenes, stressed that the presence of the product at São Paulo Fashion Week represents the appreciation of the caiçara identity and the work developed in the municipality.
The Sebrae Entrepreneur Fair, which takes place in Curitiba, also integrates this agenda of valuing small businesses. The event brings together lectures, workshops, exhibitions and orientations for entrepreneurs, focusing on innovation, empowerment and market opportunities.
